Legitreviews have just completed a review of the Aerocool 620W Zerodba power supply. The Zero dba refers to the ability to change its settings allowing it to either run very cool or slightly hotter with slower fan speeds. Variable fan speeds allow greater cooling or less noise, depending on your needs.
The power supply itself is reated at 620W which is in fact enough to supply any system you care to set up nowadays. With the fastest video cards needing at least a 550W power supply the Zerodba comes at a good time for this market.
It’s large fan allows it to run at lower RPMs reducing the noise you hear from it during use.
This power supply does something which many other power supply unit manufacturers are taking to heart, and thats modularity. You are able to detach any of the cables which are not in use, leaving the case free from clutter. Another addition are 3 pin fan power connectors on the power supply unit, never leaving you without a spot to get the power for your fans.
I comes with a full compliment of connectors, 8 molex, 2 floppy and all the others you could need, as well as those fan connectors I mentioned before.
Although Aerocool have not made as much of a name for themselves as some of the other manufacturers, they are making ground with a power supply that is well worth considering if you are looking for something in this range.
Spire Rocketeer 500 watt power supply

A 500 watt power supply not only allows smoother power delivery, but allows you to run the newest stuff without worrying that it will overwork your power supply.
With a claimed 75% efficiency and supporting the BTX standard this 500 watt power supply seems to be on the right track from the start. Modular style cables are always an added advantage and becoming more and more popular with many manufacturers adding them to their units.
The Spire Rocketeer 500 watt power supply lived up to expectations and stayed on track with decent ratings in the full review at motherboards.org
Overall a worthwhile purchase, although the cables are a little stiff, but easily replaceable.
Hiper Type-R 580W Modular Power Supply

The Hiper Type-R 580W Modular Power Supply has some fairly unique features making it good for use in both normal situations and under heavier loads.
It features a case that is made with metal mesh. The mesh itself allows a lot of airflow through the small holes in it. This allows the cooling to be a little less extreme and notably the speed of the fan.
It has a 120mm fan at the bottom and 80mm fan at the back. The two together providing more than enough for the cooling needs of this power supply.
In the review at extremeoverclocking they verified that all the voltages were within tolerances, meaning that their shouldn’t be any surprises for any of your precious computer components.
The other great feature of this power supply is the fact that it has modular cabling. This is not unique to this power supply, but they have taken a more sturdy approach than the Ultra power supplies that are well-known for this feature. They are connected with a key at the PSU end and with gold plated fittings at the other end. All of the cables are sleeved, leaing things clean and uncluttered in the case.
The case is fairly unique, but doesn’t make any strides or surprises with the quality of power coming from the power supply itself.
Ultra Products X2 550W Modular Power Supply

The original concept of the modular power supply, which Ultra was the pioneer of, was a really cool way to minimize the clutter in your computer and just make things that much more manageable. Combined with good looks these power supplies made a good buy at a not too high price.
The X2 550W Modular Power Supply with titanium finish takes off where its predecessor left off. It comes with a large, very quiet fan, installed at the top under a grill. The most notable improvement is the changing of the cables. Although the modular idea was cool, the thick rounded cables from before offered a lot of challenge as they were not very flexible and tight corners sometimes made them unusable.
Ultra have addressed this problem by changing the cable into flat style cables. This makes them a lot easier to bend and move around but they still maintain their ability to be taken off when not in use. The cables are UV reactive which is cool for those that like things to glow.
However the same old negatives remain, and although the power supply does well in looks and installation, it doesn’t do so well in efficiency. This makes the most difference for high power users, but is indicative of an area where they could be improved.
Thermaltake Silent PurePower 600W Power Supply
Tuesday, February 28th, 2006 | News, Power Supply Reviews | View Comments
The Thermaltake Silent PurePower 600W only comes in one power rating at that is the 600W model. This is more than enough for anyone running a modern computer, even with the most demanding of components installed.
A 120mm fan located at the top of the power supply keeps a lot of air flow around the power supply and is very silent in operation, keeping your working environment quiet.
The front side of the power supply (the side facing outside the case) is perforated to allow flow of air from the outside into the power supply, another great thing for keeping things cool, especially considering that the power supply is not the most efficient around.
Power supply is consistent with smooth power over all the voltages. Certainly a good power supply for the power hungry.
